March 25, 2021 - Meeting

Jaki and Vicki are meeting up in their secret hideout. 


Vicki: You showed up!
Jaki: So this isn't a prank. You're actually here.
Vicki: Yup!
Jaki: Why are we here?
V: (deep breath) We're here because I have a present for you. Well, technically it's 4 presents and 2 surprises, but...
J: Back up a minute. You think that you can ruin my reputation, embarrass me out of house and home, invite me to meet up with you 4 years later and expect me to just pick up where we left off?
V: C'mon, gimme a chance!
J: I've given you many chances. You're out of chances, Vicki.
V: (pulls small box wrapped in pink wrapping paper and a silver bow out from behind her chair) Just open this before you go. Please?
J: (pause) Fine.

Jaki opens the box carefully. Inside is a rose brooch made of rose quartz. Jaki gasps.

J: Vicki, where did you get this?
V: I found it in Opal's stuff.
J: (whispers) Opal. I miss Opal.
V: (whispers) Me too.

(Opal was Jaki and Vicki's older sister. Jaki and Vicki are twins. Opal died when she was 17 years old.)

J: Why were you going through her stuff, anyway?
V: I was just looking around. I found this brooch, and I thought that it'd go nicely with your cape.
J: (smiles) Thanks.
V: I still have 3 presents and 2 surprises.
J: Show me next week.
V: Huh?
J: Show me next week. We can make these meet-ups a weekly thing.
V: Okay. Yeah, I'd like that.
(both girls smile)

 I remember mentioning that Lela's greatest fear is CHALK . Why? That's exactly what I'm about to explain: Lela is normally pretty tough. It takes a lot to rattle her.
